“I Eat Cannibals” by Toto Coelo – Disco Video Mix by Glenn
Rivera
Toto Coelho is a female pop/nu-wave ensemble produced by Barry
Blue (Heatwave, Cheryl Lynn, Howard Jones, and Amazulu) in the early
80’s. The group included Anita Mahadevan, Lacey Bond, Lindsey Danvers,
Ros Holness and Sheen Doran. The delivery was more of a camp and
comedic edge for a period where dance music was shifting into many
genres. “I Eat Cannibals” is their most successful song from 1982 and
brings to mind the “Hey, Mickey” package which was a lighter edge on
the dance floor scene at the time. This track is just as camp and
plays out with drum beats which roar like an appetite for the 80’s all
over again.
I have taken scenes from the wicked 1991 film
“Silence of the Lambs” starring Jody Foster and Anthony Hopkins. This
disturbing adventure into the life of Dr. Hannibal Lector and a serial
killer. There should be no questions on the pairing. The reworking of
the dance track with the film are more of a twist of fate.
The
film was directed by Jonathan Demme
