“In Hollywood (Everybody Is A Star)” by Village People – Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
The 1977 Village People hit, “In Hollywood (Everyone Is A Star)” from their first LP titled, “Village People” gets the Video Mix treatment here. A darker side of Hollywood all together with the use of excerpts from John Schlesinger’s 1975 film, “Day Of The Locust” staring Karen Black, Donald Sutherland and William Atherton.
The film gives a dramatic depiction of the lure of Hollywood in the 1930’s but also the dark and dreary side of how the dream of stardom left many empty minded and handed. The films climatic ending where a symbolic deterioration of society and its need for violence for change.
On the lighter side of this arena, the Village People track has always been a festive opportunity for dance and celebration. The meeting of these 2 elements is only for entertainment purposes and my lure for the left-field style of filmmaking.
NOTE: The drag sequence used in this Video Mix features none other than Paul Jabara – in another rare movie appearance.
