"Computer Game" by Yellow Magic Orchestra - Disco Video Mix by Glenn Rivera
Haruomi Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto were Yellow Magic Orchestra – their debut solo album in 1977 was a conceptual project, which blended an exotic oriental sound with electronics. In 1978 they released a self-titled album that contained an innovative electronic dance track, “Computer Games”. This instrumental contained many keyboard elements very much in a style and effort that electronic projects similar to the German band Kraftwerk.
I have taken this wonderful piece of music and placed it below visuals from the 1968 Japanese monster film, “Majin, The Monster Of Terror” - a tale of a small town being ruled by a bad Samurai leader who means his waterloo with a sacred giant stone statue that wrecks havoc when called upon to save the village. It is a film I can remember seeing a child and the visions of Majin’s horrifying transformation to life were never forgotten.
The blending of Yellow Magic Orchestra and “Majin, The Monster of Terror” is an opportunity to hear a progressive electronic dance track and action and adventure on the same ticket.
